My Musings on Music

When Meilin came home from her First Asian piano lesson, she would not stop saying, "beware of Asian teachers! BEWARE!" (She may or may not have been sobbing,) So I was very nervous when I found out that i was going to have two lessons in one day!

My first violin lesson was not necessarily bad, except that I was hearing "Push your thumb back! (pronounced push your tum back) No! Relax!" About every five seconds. My brain felt like it was going to explode because I couldn't think of everything at the same time.

My first piano lesson was fun! When I walked into the room, my teacher (he calls himself "Teacha") said, "Teacha has a new piece for you! It is Etude op.25 no.2 by Frederick Chopin." I had tried to learn this a few months ago, and got three measures into it before I realized "This thing is hard!"Anyway. Working on that one.

I think he is the perfect teacher for me in Malaysia. He is extremely thorough, but he has a good humor. He is always making up funny ways to teach me something, like "Make sure your duck beak is doing all the work." (He was opening and closing his fingers like a duck was talking.) Maybe he forgot my name, so he called me simply "Boy," and he still calls me that almost two months later... He always says, "Listen to Teacha, Boy!"

Sometimes I get frustrated with music, but I wont let that stop me because music makes me very happy!

The picture below is when I was able to visit Julliard in NYC last year with my dad. At the Julliard Store, I bought my first Chopin Nocturne--I love Chopin!!!
